The actual kindergarten lessons in the morning are not subsidised by the city. However, parents entitled to subsidies pay an income-related rate for kindergarten lessons, which is based on their individual contribution factor (see table below).
All parents whose children have been cared for in a Krippe in the city of Zurich for at least one year before entering kindergarten are entitled to subsidised afternoon care in the Irchelkindergarten. However, there must be no interruption of more than 7 weeks before the transfer to the Irchelkindergarten.
The parental contributions for subsidised afternoon care are subject to the subsidy model of the Social Department of the City of Zurich and are reviewed annually and adjusted if necessary.
In the months of May and November, the kindergarten mornings are also subsidised by the city. This serves as compensation for the public holiday-care programme, ensuring equal support for children who attend a private kindergarten that remains open during the school holidays.
The following rates are charged for non-subsidised places: Fr. 105 per full day, Fr. 73.50 care until 2 pm, Fr. 52.50 kindergarten morning only.
The calculation of a flat rate of 20 days per month (4.0 weeks of 5 days each / 240 days per year) results in 48 paid weeks per year; i.e. parents do not pay for the holdiay closures of the kindergarten.
Costs for morning care until 12:00 noon, if entitled to subsidised afternoon care:

New from 1 January 2026: Sibling discount: From the second child cared for at the same time (Kindergarten or Krippe), parents receive a 10% discount on the care costs of each additional child.
