Guided Morning Activity
In the mornings, the children in the group engage with a specific theme or participate in our regular activities. On one morning, we take the children to gymnastics; on another, to our painting studio. Every second Wednesday morning is our forest morning. On the other Wednesday morning, children bring a toy from home to play with during free play.
The time-limited exploration of themes fosters discovery-based and investigative learning through all senses. The themes are always based on the children’s interests and needs. They are planned not for, but with the children. The daily group activities related to the current theme promote a sense of community and, depending on the educational goals, focus on creative, social, cognitive, motor, and linguistic areas.
For each theme, there is painting, crafting, dancing, storytelling, dramatic play, making music, and much more.
Afternoon Care
In the afternoon, we take excursions to the forest, Irchelpark, or the playgrounds in the neighbourhood. Our large garden and the forecourt in front of the kindergarten are also used for free play.
We visit museums, the zoo, and many other excursion destinations. Children are also involved in the planning of afternoon activities. Spontaneity and flexibility are important to us so that we can respond to the children’s needs. A connection to the current group theme is also playfully established in the afternoon.
Holiday Care
With the exception of two weeks of holiday closure over Christmas and New Year, public holidays, as well as Sechseläuten, Knabenschiessen, and the Friday after Ascension Day, the kindergarten is open all year round, also during school holidays. During the official school holidays, it is important to us to create a holiday atmosphere in the kindergarten as well. Less emphasis is placed on themes and guided sessions; instead, other activities such as special excursions take precedence.
